"You can disagree with me all you want, but I'm still right." Phillip shoots him a smirk over the racks, pulling out a couple of things and draping them over her arms. "I mean, the entire city is shut down, are we supposed to be anywhere? People have still needed to eat."
Which isn't quite the same thing as shopping but whatever. "What's your deal with denim? They could be black jeans, if it's the color."
"It's an absolutely coarse material that looks sloppy," he says with clear distaste as he files through the racks, looking at a maroon sweater. "It's not just the color, I assure you."
Phillip sighs, in a way that implies that Gansey is being exceedingly difficult- which he is. "Ok, fine, no denim. But you still need something with more shape to it." She eyes a rack and nimbly picks out a pair. "Here. Try these."
And she'll just shove a few shirts and a pair of pants into his arms- no t-shirts, no jeans, and definitely no polos.
Please remember how tight the pants Phillip wears are, Gansey, and you might understand that her standards are a bit different.
She reaches up, poking in the middle of his forehead. "I'll fix that when you're actually in them. So go on, starting changing." She is not gesturing to any of the changing rooms and it's not clear where they are...
It's still embarrassing. It's a lot of open space.
And so he sheds his shirt, tossing it on the rack haphazardly, putting on the long-sleeve shirt that Pip picked out for him.
When it comes to the pants, he just watches Pip for a couple of seconds too long before realizing that she's just going to stand there waiting for him to change. And so he pulls off his khakis, boxer briefs and thighs on display, then pulls on a pair of the tightest pants he's ever worn.
To be fair, she's not staring at him as he strips- she is still looking through the racks for him. But Pip will glance back occasionally to check on his progress, and maybe her gaze lingers a little bit longer when his thighs are on display. What? Could anyone blame her?
"See, that looks pretty good. It's at least different." And seeing as it's still a collared shirt but with a different cut than a polo, it's probably not too far off of what Gansey's comfortable with.
"Color isn't a bad thing, but for guys it's usually more of a thing you put in accessories, like a scarf or something." Please don't wear that aquamarine shirt, Gansey. "Or as like, an accent- colorful shirt with a black jacket or something might work."
"As straight colored shirts? They kind of are. Girls can get away with a hell of a lot more in the way of color and I'm not going to wear this anywhere. Sweaters might be a little better, or like, a patterned shirt." Tasteful patterning.
She walks over to him, having pulled a dark leather jacket off the racks. "It does look good. Try this on over it?"
All Gansey can think about at that comment is his girlfriend, Blue, and what she might have to say about the sexist comment regarding wearing different colors.
He's not sure if her feminism or her desire to see Gansey in different clothing would win out.
Gansey holds up the jacket.
"Leather?" he asks witheringly, holding it up with one hand. It reminds him of his best friend, Ronan.
Look, Phillip really doesn't like that either. But he got some real shit for wearing something even remotely 'girly' to school as a boy one time, so she's very, very aware of the conventional differences.
"Please don't tell me you're going to rule out leather and denim," Pip sighs, hands on her hips. Stop making this difficult!!
"Leather is just about the opposite of classy," he says with some disdain. He has never seen leather anything on anyone he's preferred to associate with.
Pip just gives him a look, before sliding on the jacket herself. "Is classy the only look you go for?" The jacket hangs off of her shoulders, a little bit too big for her in this form, but... there's no denying that it looks quite good on her.
Yeah. She knows. Pip grins, pulling at it a little bit to adjust it on her. "I'm not asking you to marry it, just try it on. See, I've even making sure it won't be cold when you put it on." She's so nice.
It doesn't really need to be adjusted, but that's not going to stop Pip. She closes the short distance between them, tugging on it a little bit to show off just how well it fits him. "It looks good," she says, looking up at him with a crafty little smile.
"Me? Noooo." Pip looks up at him, her expression the exact opposite of her innocent tone. She doesn't pull away from his hands, letting them settle there, quite close together. "Besides. It does."

He takes whatever is shoved at him. "It will be difficult determining whether these even look good on me in the dark you realize?"
And even though he's giving Pip a hard time, he's still teasing her. He doesn't hate this by any means.

"There's no one else here and I've already seen you naked." Pip shrugs. "What's the problem?"

He smooths the shirt out and looks down. No, not bad at all.
"See I don't mind this. However, unlike a lot of guys my age, I like a splash of color every once in a while."

"And if I'd rather not layer or add accessories?" Let him wear colors!!
no subject
"Then you get more muted colors." Pip shrugs. "I don't make the rules. You can have colors, they just can't be that... garish."

He looks down at the shirt and pants again.
"I must say, I do like this."

"I can't argue with a prewarmed jacket." He receives it from Pip and puts it on.
He's not thrilled with it but it fits him well.
